Biersdorf am See - "Merkeshausen" hike
Biersdorf am See
From the Bitburg reservoir, this hike leads via Echtershausen and Merkeshausen back to Biersdorf.
You will find refreshment stops in Biersdorf am See.
Tip: If you like, you can plan a detour to the "Ringelstein" lookout point.
The starting point of the hike is at the main car park of the Bitburg reservoir.
From the starting point, turn right into the road uphill. The path leads through the holiday home complex. Here there are always beautiful views of the lake.
It continues uphill a little further. Here is the course of the field archers Biersdorf am See. Life-size 3D models are set up for training purposes. So don't be alarmed if you spot a lynx or bear in the forest. The trail leads through the course along a narrow path to Echtershausen. The village lies idyllically in the Prüm valley. There is only one road leading into the village and the way out is via the same road. The path leads over the bridge and then turns immediately right. For the next few kilometres you can enjoy the peace and solitude of the Eifel forest. The path runs parallel to the Prüm river to Merkeshausen Castle. The castle, built in 1892, is privately owned and can only be admired from the outside.
The trail now crosses the Prüm to the right and, together with the main hiking trail 7 of the Eifelverein, leads back on the other side of the river towards Echtershausen. Shortly before you reach the bridge, it goes uphill again. Surrounded by meadows, fields and forest, the idyllic Eifel landscape can be enjoyed here.
If you wish, you can make a detour to the summit cross. Here, in good weather, you can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view over the Bitburger Gutland. In the distance you can make out the striking tower of the Bitburg brewery and, in perfect weather, even the ridges of the Hunsrück.
You will then return to Biersdorf through the forest.
