Chapel "Einsiedelei"
Wiersdorf
The sacred building "Einsiedelei", a pretty chapel in the woods of the local community of Wiersdorf, on a meadow slope west of the Prüm river, can be easily reached from the village via well-maintained hiking trails. Near the chapel there is a Lourdes grotto from 1923 and a Marian column from 1929/30 with the corresponding Way of the Cross with 14 stations. The pious hermit Jakob Leisen lived here from 1906 to 1945. He built a Way of the Cross and a small chapel in the forest. When the people of Wiersdorf visited him on their Sunday outings, he served them black bread and homemade goat cheese. Today, a group of people called "Die Einsiedler" (The Hermits) support association looks after the legacy of the pious man.
