Closed EifelBahnSteig - 23rd stage: From Philippsheim to Speicher
speicher
Due to the flood event in July 2021, the route is closed. In addition, the Eifelbahn line is currently not passable.
The two lonely stations tempt you to give the stage this title. The protected buildings - both belong to the Eifelbahn monument zone - transport the observer back in time. Especially in the narrow river valley, you get an impression of the audacity of this project and of the importance of the railway for the remote region.
Our tour also leads through a largely deserted area. At the beginning, we hike briefly parallel to the Kyll with beautiful views of the valley, then we walk for a long time in a westerly direction through the forest, a good part of it together with the Josef-Schramm-Weg of the Eifelverein. After turning south, we soon come out into the open and walk through the meadow landscape above Röhl with a wide view - even Speicher can be seen in the distance. Finally, we cross this village and behind it we climb briefly upwards, still through open terrain; then, after crossing the L 39, we soon enter the forest again and walk down the narrowly cut Johannesgraben until we reach the Kyll. Finally on asphalt to the railway station, which lies so dreamily and lonely on the Kyll that you can't imagine how close you are to the lively centre of Speicher.
