Closed EifelBahnSteig - 24th stage: From Speicher to Auw an der Kyll
Speicher
Due to the flood event in July 2021, the route is currently not passable. The Eifel railway line is also not passable.
The quiet paths of this stage are particularly surprising, considering the proximity to Bitburg and its busy surroundings. As soon as we have come up from the Kyll through the Johannesgraben and into the open, we hike along lonely paths from village to village and, as the proportion of woodland is low, we get wonderful far-reaching views of this dreamy landscape almost throughout. On the way, we pass the villages of Sülm, Trimport and Dahlem, look back after a short ascent to the section we have walked through and especially far to the north, before we descend to Auw via Eselsley, which is associated with a spectacular legend.
This stage is one of the shorter stretches of the EifelBahnSteig. The beginning coincides for 1.4 km with the end of the previous, also shorter stage. For this reason, and to avoid the not particularly attractive road section behind Speicher railway station, the two stages could also be combined. We indicate above the Johannesgraben a connection between the two tours. The total length of this version is 21.6 km.
