My insider tip is the Kyll cycle path

The best way for me to switch off from everyday life is to get on my bike. I then enjoy the varied landscape of the Eifel on a bike tour.

I particularly enjoy cycling the section from Bitburg-Erdorf to Auw/Kyll along the Kyll Cycle Path. When I arrive in Speicher, I like to stop for a few minutes near the Speicherer Mühle mill. I sit down on the grass right next to the water and watch the gentle current of the Kyll. I often spot a Kyll brown trout. I've even seen a kingfisher and a gray heron there.

I feel very much at home in this place on the Kyll in wooded surroundings and enjoy the peace and quiet. It's like a vacation for me.

At some point, I cycle on towards Trier and when my legs start to get heavy, I get on the train and return to my starting point. It's a good feeling to know that you always have the option of taking the train.

ATTENTION - Closure with established detour:

Due to the electrification of the Trier-Cologne railroad line, the Kyll cycle path between Albachmühle/Metterich and Auw an der Kyll/Daufenbach is still closed by the Deutsche Bahn construction site. Some sections are expected to be closed until 2027.

A large-scale detour will guide cyclists from Albachmühle via Bitburg along the cycle paths on the Nims and Sauer and Irrel to Trier. The large-scale detour is approx. 10 km longer than the route through the Kyll valley, but is the best choice due to its topographical characteristics and good construction standard.

As the cycle path closures coincide with rail traffic closures, it is not possible to use the railroad in this case.
