Heated floors, an elaborate bathing facility and space for several families with around 66 rooms - the dimensions and furnishings of Villa Otrang are impressive. Roman settlers lived on the estate as early as the 1st century AD, which also included a place of worship with two temples and burial grounds. The villa was inhabited until the end of the 4th century, when it was destroyed by the Franks. It is one of the largest Roman villa complexes in the Rhineland and also one of the best preserved: In four rooms of the almost square manor house, it was possible to uncover the wonderful mosaic floors, which had been stumbled upon by chance during fieldwork. From 1838, Frederick William IV of Prussia supported the excavations. Valuable finds such as the torso of the goddess Isis-Fortuna can now be found in the Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Trier.
