Orchard meadows give the cultural landscape of the Bitburger Gutland its characteristic appearance. They structure and enliven the landscape and represent a high experience value for the observer. They also form an important habitat for numerous animal and plant species. This species richness is due to the combination of extensively used grassland and open woody structures. Both open land dwellers and more forest-loving species with different moisture and temperature requirements meet here and make use of the varied mosaic of habitats.
